Our private survey administration capabilities allow us to independently, cost-effectively and confidentially help organizations and associations collect, analyze and report market data on compensation and other human resource practices.

Through our proprietary PayPulseTM survey process, we are available for fast-response survey efforts to help you “take the pulse of” the marketplace and gather the data needed for short-term needs and decisions.

Our Founder and Managing Partner

Ann BaresAltura Consulting Group, LLC was founded in 2003 by Ann Bares.  Ann brings over 25 years of experience consulting in the field of employee compensation to her work serving Altura clients.

Ann has worked with a wide variety of organizations in reviewing, designing and implementing executive compensation plans, base salary structures, variable and incentive compensation programs, sales compensation programs, and performance management systems.   She has worked with many of her clients to design and administer custom survey efforts to meet their needs for competitive data.  She has extensive experience in developing and conducting training and communication programs to support the roll-out of compensation initiatives.

Prior to founding Altura Consulting Group, Ann was employed as a compensation consultant with Watson Wyatt Worldwide (now Willis Towers Watson) and Riley, Dettmann and Kelsey.  Early in her career she spent several years in staff compensation and human resources roles.

Ann has an MBA degree from the J. L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University and a BA degree from the College of St. Catherine.  She has served on the Boards of Directors for the Twin Cities Compensation Network (TCCN) and the Twin Cities Human Resources Association (TCHRA).  Ann is an active member of WorldatWork and has written and served as an article reviewer for Association publications.  Ann has been named to the Advisory Board of the Compensation & Benefits Review, the leading professional journal for those who teach, research and practice in the total rewards field.

Ann is a frequent speaker to industry and professional groups and has authored a range of articles on compensation topics.   She is co-author of the popular ebook “Everything You Do in Compensation is Communication”.  She is founder and editor of the award-winning online Compensation Café and also writes at her own blog Compensation Force.  Ann has served as regular instructor for the University of Minnesota’s College of Continuing Education, as adjunct faculty at Concordia University and as an adjunct curriculum developer for Cornell University’s Institute for Compensation Studies.
